Question 6 of 8

Each year, approximately 2,500 refugee women are resettled to Australia under the "women at risk" visa category, and another 7,000 under the general refugee scheme. What does refugee resettlement mean?

According to the UNHCR, which is the UN agency which helps with resettlement programmes worldwide, resettlement is the transfer of refugees from an asylum country to another state that has agreed to admit them and ultimately grant them permanent residence. Australia is one of the countries which receives refugees for resettlement. You can read more about the experiences of women who are resettled in Australia here.
